Mit

5 years old, in foster

Meet Mit, our big, beautiful boy.

Mitt came to SECR when his owner’s circumstances changed. It was a hard goodbye, and he arrived stressed, unsure, and in serious need of a spa day. Brushing felt like too much at first, so we gave him space to settle in and decide for himself that he was safe. Once he did, the real Mit began to appear: a sweet, clever, velcro boy who wants to be wherever his person is.

He happily hangs out in the home office during the day, but the second his foster sits on the couch, Mit launches himself beside her and proceeds to lie on top of her like an oversized weighted blanket. MIt gets along well with the other dogs in his foster home and enjoys flinging stuffed toys around with enthusiasm.

He appears to be housetrained, listens well, and has also demonstrated that dog playpens are merely a suggestion, able to leap their bounds with ease. Maybe agility is in his future? Surprisingly, he’s a picky eater. Mitt initially preferred a menu featuring cheese, poultry, and hand-fed kibble, ideally served one piece at a time. He has started eating some plain kibble, which may not sound exciting, but in foster we celebrate each small victory.

At his first vet visit, his itchy skin and ears were thought to be allergy-related. He came home with medicated shampoo and a plan to help him feel more comfortable. He also received several vaccines, with the rest and his bloodwork scheduled for a follow-up visit so he would not be overwhelmed. He became anxious during the exam, and the staff wisely chose not to push him. He still needs to be neutered. Mit was clearly loved before, and he has so much love to give.

This big beautiful boy is learnnig that his foster home is a safe place, and we can see it in his expression. All he wants is to belong to someone again.
