Iris

3-4 years ~ Female ~ Corgi ~ 32.9 lbs ~  Adoption Pending

This beautiful, loving, and feisty girl was surrendered, along with one of her puppies, to an animal shelter due to her owner’s death.

PERSONALITY & BEHAVIORS:

It would be hard to beat Iris for all around great, medium energy dog.  Iris loves her people and thrives hanging out with them getting snuggles and belly rubs.  But, she is also okay by herself.  She enjoys playing fetch with her humans, but is happy to toss and catch her squeaky toys and balls by herself.  She is incredibly athletic, but not hyper.  She loves a good run, swim, hike, or walk but when it is over she is happy to sleep and rest.  She doesn’t have to always be moving but she loves having fun things to do each and every day.

Iris gets excited about food and is vocal when meal time is near.  She in not at all aggressive or destructive, but she does like to play rough and is also very mouthy in play.  Due to the possibility of hard biting during the excitement of play, older kids and teenagers would be better play companions for her.

TRAINING:

Wanting a well-mannered travel companion who is always ready to go?  Whether on foot or by car, Iris is your girl.  She loves riding in the car and enjoys her daily walk routine.  Iris is house trained and crate trained.  She knows sit, come, shake and wait.

HEALTH:

  • Up-to-date on vaccinations
  • Spayed
  • No dental issues, she does have one missing front tooth.
  • No known medical issues.
  • Overweight when she came into foster, her forever family will need to continue to monitor her diet and make daily exercise a priority

SOCIALIZATION:

As an alpha female, Iris likes to be in charge.  Once she has order established to her liking, she no longer has resource guarding issues and is relaxed and friendly and will even snuggle with other dogs in her household.  She does not really play with other dogs.  On walks she is non-reactive to other dogs and will usually ignore them.  Iris has not been cat tested, but she is highly reactive to a resident ferret, so a home with cats would probably not be a good match for her.

She is confident and happy meeting people, both male and female, and loves getting snuggles and belly rubs.  Everyone who meets her loves her and her signature half sploot.

FOREVER HOME:

Iris is looking for an active family who understands they are getting a smart, loving, active dog with plenty of character who wants to play a staring role in their lives. Her ideal home would include an active couple with middle school and older kids, and possibly a male dog to snuggle with.  And since Iris loves water and is a wonderful swimmer, a family with a pool or having access to water would make her dreams of living her best life come true.
