6 year old ~ female ~ Adopted August 2019
Poppy is now ready for adoption and listed on Petfinder — https://www.petfinder.com/dog/poppy-44981361/sc/edisto-island/southeast-corgi-rescue-sc107/
Update Feb 11 – Poppy is doing well. She is on the road to being house trained, holds it well and does a little circle dance when she needs to go. Hasn’t mastered telling her foster yet, though, so she needs to be on a set schedule or watched closely. She’s warming up to her canine sibling, Griff, and is starting to play with him.
Poppy loves treats and will now take them out of your hand. She is a little slow to learn commands, especially since hand signals still make her nervous. Her foster reports that she does understand the crate command and is working on ‘sit.’ Super smart, Poppy loves to play and be outside. She especially likes hanging out on the deck after dusk. While she hasn’t done much leash training yet, she is getting lots of human socializing time and is a big fan of snuggling and loves to sit on your lap or next to you on the couch. At 22 pounds, Poppy is at her ideal weight and we’re so happy with how far this puppy mill mom has progressed!
FIRST POST – It’s early days yet, but so far, Poppy seems to be really outgoing for a retired mom. She loves attention and is going to be a great family member, once she learns some doggy habits like house training and leash walking. The latter is going to be even more important than usual because Poppy is quite overweight! She also came to us with what was diagnosed as a non threatening fatty tumor but we will be having her rechecked just to make sure that it doesn’t need to be treatment. We will also be making an appointment to have her spayed, of course.
