formerly Kaya, 11 years old, adopted by foster
November 20, 2023: Congratulations, Katie!
Turkey Day is just around the corner, and we have a reason to be even more thankful this year – Katie has her forever home!
This sweet senior came back to SECR in July, when her Mom (who adopted her from us five years ago) was battling terminal illness. Situations like this are incredibly painful for everyone involved, but we’re glad Katie’s family trusted us to take her in and find the best placement for her in a dire time of need. We quickly placed Katie in the best-for-her new foster home, and it didn’t take long for her to work her loving magic on her foster parents and even her feline foster siblings. They bonded quickly and Katie even found a new “job” as foster Dad’s teaching assistant at school – the kids and Katie had mutual love for each other, the classroom, and camping field trips!
It’s no surprise that Katie and her foster family decided to make their bond last forever. We’re excited to announce today that Katie has officially been adopted by her foster family. We couldn’t be happier that we could bring them together in this time of need.
Congratulations, Katie and family!

July 13, 2023: Katie goes to school
Katie’s Foster Dad is a teacher, and she says he absolutely cannot be trusted to decorate his own classroom. That’s something that requires a corgi’s expertise. So, she went to school with him today and got to work!

July 7, 2023: Welcome back, Katie!
Once a dog joins the SECR family, they’re part of the family for life. We’re always here, whenever they need us.
This sweet girl, Katie, originally came to rescue and was adopted from us 5 years ago. Her parents have both since become critically ill, and wanting to do what’s best for their girl, the family contacted us to take her back into our care. Decisions like this are always difficult for everyone involved, but we’re happy we could help.
Katie is currently settled in to her new foster home, relishing in the love and attention she’s getting from her foster parents and enjoying the company of her kitty foster siblings.
Katie, we’re so sorry that you and your family have been through so much, but we’re happy your with us and that we’re able to do our part in a time of need.
This is rescue.
