14 years old, Rainbow Bridge 2023
June 21, 2023: Rest in Peace, Olivia
It breaks our hearts to share the news that Olivia, one of our long-time beloved forever fosters, has left us for the rainbow bridge. This sweet senior girl touched many hearts in her nearly three years with SECR, and her story is one that is closely connected to a variety of SECR forever fosters and an alum that she lovingly called her sisters and best friends. What follows is a tribute to Olivia written by her Dad:
Olivia was our first ever foster dog (along with SECR forever foster Nessa). We drove out almost 3 years ago to pick them up. We were given the option to take Olivia or Nessa. My wife really wanted Nessa. She had seen all the FB posts and fallen in love. I saw this fluffy goofball named Olivia who came up to me and had me pet her the whole time we chatted. Of course, I asked if we could take both.
Livvy had the biggest personality, from the side eye to the stubbornness to the emo looks she would give us. She’d ignore us at the dog park like a moody teenager, lay down on walks and have to be carried home over my shoulder, and whine and howl about anything that bothered her (getting on the couch, off the couch, etc). Olivia was the infamous Rice Krispy treat bandit who took it right under our nose. She was so sweet with our Yorkie, Scooby, when he passed and was able to be with (SECR alum) Hunter, too, when his time came. She welcomed (now SECR alum) Opal to our home and taught her how to go outside to potty. Opal still follows her outside. Olivia, Nessa and Opal made up part of the Golden Girls, a title that she shared with “Bed Wars” collaborator (and late SECR forever foster) Summer.
Nine months ago, Olivia had a splenectomy and then pancreatitis, and then pancreatitis again, and again, and then vestibular disease. Each time it took a little longer to recover and never back to where she was before.
I’m so grateful that I asked if we could take both all those years ago. We didn’t know what we were getting into, or how loud she could be. But I wouldn’t trade that time for the world. Olivia was our first forever foster, but forever isn’t long enough. Sleep easy girl. We love you. Summer, Scooby, and Hunter are waiting.

August 20, 2020: Welcome Olivia to SECR!
Say hello to our newest SECR Golden Girl, Olivia! Olivia is a 12-year-old Corgi mix and our newest senior pull from the shelter. She had a lot of spring in her step yesterday when she realized she was getting her freedom ride, and we love looking into her beautiful, dual-colored eyes! We’ll be getting Olivia caught up on vet care and grooming, and working to get her on a good diet and exercise regimen. This sweet girl is currently 46 pounds, so shedding some weight is in order to get her to her healthy and fit self! We’ll post more about Olivia soon, but in the meantime if you’d like to contribute to her care please head over to our the donation link on the website our head to our Facebook page to give what you can through our senior fundraiser.
