In Loving Memory of Ross — The Quiet Gentleman

Ross was the kind of dog who didn’t demand anything, but quietly gave his heart. A true gentleman, Ross brought calm wherever he went. At 15, he still enjoyed life’s simple pleasures — a soft bed, a sun-dappled yard, the comfort of routine, and the closeness of people.

He had a gentle way about him — never pushy, never loud. He simply wanted to be near. A nap in the sun, a stroll in the yard, a soft pat on the head — that was enough. He got along with everyone, including kids, cats, and other dogs, and seemed happiest just being included.

Ross lived peacefully and contentedly until the very end. He had some health issues, so we kept in as a forever foster so we could help take care of them. He even survived a splenectomy at age 14 (thankfully the mass was benign). He also began experiencing excessive thirst and urination, and the vet suspected diabetes insipidus. Despite these health challenges, he remained a happy boy, happiest when right next to his foster mom.

In his final days, he began experiencing sudden, severe seizures, and the veterinarian suspected a brain tumor. When it became clear that his comfort could no longer be maintained, we made the loving decision to let him go.

Ross may have been quiet, but his presence filled a room. He was loved, and his passing leaves a soft but undeniable space behind. We’re grateful to have known this quiet gentleman, and even more grateful that he spent his final days surrounded by care and love.

You were easy to love, Ross.

July 15, 2024: Happy 14th Birthday, Ross!

Please put your paws together and join us in celebrating our goodest boy Ross, who just celebrated his 14th Birthday!

You only turn 14 once, so of course the big day should include a party with your bestest friends and plenty of doggy cake and ice cream. Happy Birthday, sweet Ross. We love you, and are pretty jealous of how great you look in that hat!

March 18, 2022: Welcome Ross!

A Friday spent with a newbie is a FriYAY! Say hello to our newest addition to the SECR family, Ross!

Ross is a senior corgi mix that joins us as an owner surrender. His Dad is battling health issues that make it difficult for him to give Ross the care and attention he needs and made the difficult decision to give Ross to rescue so he could live his golden years with all the pampering he deserves. Ross is currently settling in to his new foster home and getting used to life with his new kitty sibling, Doppler. Once he gets the lay of the land we’ll be taking him to our vet to get caught up on routine health care, vaccines, and heartworm testing, as well as get a long-lasting fatty growth under his skin re-checked to make sure it’s still benign. While he appears to get around quite well Ross does have some stiffness so we’ll also likely get him started on daily joint supplements to maintain his mobility.

Welcome to the family, Ross. We’re so glad to have you!
