Surrendering Your Dog

Important News about our Foster Program and Surrenders
August 9, 2025

After a lot of debate, significant resource and financial juggling, and stressful decision-making, SECR is announcing that effective today we will temporarily pause intake of new rescues.  We currently have 30 foster and forever foster dogs in our care,  many of whom are in need of significant medical and rehabilitative treatment.
Once we have placed our adoptable dogs, addressed the health and training needs of others, we will once again welcome corgi and corgi mixes into the rescue.   Since SECR is a foster-based rescue, we can only bring a dog into rescue if there is an available foster home.
Please visit our home page for more details about our temporary pause on intake of new rescues.

Surrendering Your Dog
Our goal is to keep dogs in their homes and with their owners if at all possible. If you are in need of resource for you dog such as veterinary information, behavioral training referrals, rental housing information, etc please feel free to contact us before making the final decision to surrender your dog.

Sometimes, despite your best efforts and hopes, you may find it necessary to surrender your dog. This can happen due to unexpected life changes or unforeseen circumstances. We understand that this is a difficult decision to make, and we will do our best to help your dog find a new home.

If you are considering surrendering your dog we will need full disclosure as to the good and bad traits of your dog. This will help us to not only make an informed decision as to whether we can help or not, but also to be able to find the best foster home that is most compatible for your dog. Our overall goal is to have all dogs be placed successfully in first a foster home, then an adoptive/forever home.

Although we try to help as many people with their dogs as possible, we are not able to help with some situations including certain behavioral issues. Since we are 100% foster and donation based we only have so many experienced foster homes equipped to work with dogs that have issues that need to be worked on.

If you are surrendering a dog with special needs (allergies, seizures, arthritis, etc) and you can help by donating money towards its care it is always appreciated — though it not necessary. This helps to ensure that Southeast Corgi Rescue will not have to take on a large financial obligation that we haven’t budgeted for and makes it less stressful on our fundraising team trying to raise the additional funds needed for the extra care of the dog. When you fill out your owner surrender application below, please let us know if a financial contribution of some kind is a possibility.

Please email all of the following to — rescue@southeastcorgirescue.com

  • Completed owner surrender application (below)
  • Vet records AND photos of your dog, (in your email please indicate if you have already completed and emailed the surrender application)

Our foster director will be in touch with you within 48 hours to discuss the possibility of our rescue being able to help. Again, the more information you can provide us, the easier it will be for us to get you an answer as well as find the ideal foster home for your dog. Depending on the situation, we may ask to do a behavioral assessment on your dog before being able to commit to taking them into rescue.
